A Woman's Life

Jeanne (Judith Chemla) comes home to her parents' estate in Normandy in 1819, fresh from the convent, certain that love and a good marriage are waiting for her. She weds the local viscount Julien de Lamare (Swann Arlaud), and Stéphane Brizé follows the years that wear that certainty down. Jeanne stands at the window of the estate, the baron and baroness behind her, the illusions she brought from school going one at a time.
