Abang Adik

“In This Cruel World, At Least I Have You.”

Abang (Wu Kang-ren) is a deaf-mute man who has settled into a life of poverty in present-day Malaysia, while his younger brother Adik (Jack Tan) refuses to settle for it. They are undocumented orphans with no papers and no one else, and a brutal accident upsets the fragile balance between them. Jin Ong, making his feature debut, keeps the camera close to both brothers and shoots their crowded, crime-ridden surroundings in the unflattering light of working life.
