Abraham's Valley

Ema (Leonor Silveira) is so beautiful that cars crash when she walks past, though she seems the last person in Portugal to know it. As a young woman she marries Dr. Carlos Paiva (Luís Miguel Cintra), her father's friend, and they settle in the valley of Abraham. Manoel de Oliveira, adapting Agustina Bessa-Luís, follows a marriage where Carlos sleeps in a separate room and Ema starts looking for love somewhere else.
