According to Greta

“She's a trip, but she's no vacation.”

Greta (Hilary Duff) is a sharp-tongued, self-destructive teenager whose indifferent mother sends her off for the summer. She lands with her grandparents, Katherine (Ellen Burstyn) and Joseph (Michael Murphy), whose quiet routines on the Jersey Shore she upends. Nancy Bardawil follows Greta through those months as a romance with Julie (Evan Ross) begins, and the girl who arrived armored starts to meet what she has been running from.
