Act of Violence

(1949)Directed by Fred Zinnemann82 minThriller, Drama
“The manhunt no woman could stop!”

Frank Enley (Van Heflin) is a former prisoner of war, a respected family man in his California town, with a wife, Edith (Janet Leigh), and a house the town helped him build. Then Joe Parkson (Robert Ryan), a fellow survivor who knows what Frank did in the camp, turns up intent on making him pay. Fred Zinnemann stages the pursuit as a slow noir dread, with the two veterans circling each other through the shadows.
