Affliction

“Like father like son...?”

Wade Whitehouse (Nick Nolte), a small-town policeman, wants to be a better father to his daughter and win back some standing with the people he works for. Then a hunting accident turns suspicious, and he decides it deserves a real investigation, while his drunken father Glen (James Coburn) pulls him back toward the family he came from. Paul Schrader lets the inquiry take over Wade's days, and his hold on himself loosens one small failure at a time.
