After Death

Andrei Bagrov (Vitold Polonsky), a young scholar, has fallen for the actress Zoia Kadmina (Vera Karalli) after watching her on stage, and he cannot stop thinking about her. She sends him a note, they meet once for a short, arranged visit, and three months later he learns she is dead. Yevgeni Bauer, adapting Turgenev's novella, shoots the grief in long, still takes and leaves Andrei alone in the frame with what remains of her.
