After the Storm

Ryota Shinoda (Hiroshi Abe) won a literary prize fifteen years ago and now works as a private detective, behind on his child support and still trailing his ex-wife Kyoko (Yoko Maki). One evening he, Kyoko and their eleven-year-old son Shingo end up at the apartment of his mother, Yoshiko (Kirin Kiki), when a typhoon pins them there overnight. Kore-eda keeps the camera in the cramped rooms and lets the family talk across a small table.
