“The Artist Who Opposed The Soviet Dictatorship.”
In 1945, as Stalin tightens his hold on Poland, the painter Władysław Strzemiński (Bogusław Linda) refuses to bend his work to the doctrines of social realism. He loses his chair at the university, then his place on the museum walls, while a circle of students stays with him. Andrzej Wajda, in his last film, follows the man on crutches through the streets, his daughter Nika (Bronisława Zamachowska) always close by.
