Agnes of God

“That night, murder wasn't the only sin.”

Dr. Martha Livingston (Jane Fonda), a court psychiatrist, is sent to a convent to decide whether a young novice can stand trial after a dead newborn is found in her bedroom wastebasket. Sœur Agnès (Meg Tilly) knows nothing of sex or birth, and Mother Miriam (Anne Bancroft) wants her kept from the questioning. Norman Jewison sets the three women against one another over whether what the novice believes happened can be proved or disproved.
