“Alexandria, Egypt. 391 A.D. The World Changed Forever.”

Riots are spreading through Alexandria in the late 4th century as Hypatia (Rachel Weisz) teaches philosophy and astronomy, trying to work out why the old model of the heavens does not fit what she sees. Her slave Davus (Max Minghella) loves her, and Christianity's rising tide offers him a chance at freedom. Amenábar leaves Hypatia in the library at night, scrolls around her, her eyes on the sky.
