“Something hit us... The crew is dead... Help us, please, please help us!”

A mid-air collision wrecks the cockpit of a 747 bound for Los Angeles and leaves its pilots helpless. Stewardess Nancy Pryor (Karen Black) is the one left to fly it, while her boyfriend Alan Murdock (Charlton Heston), a retired test pilot, tries to talk her down by radio. Jack Smight keeps the passengers crowded in the cabin, a noisy nun among them, and the two people at each end of that voice link have little else to hold onto.
