Akeelah and the Bee

“Changing the world... one word at a time.”

Akeelah Anderson (Keke Palmer) is eleven, good with words, and determined to enter a spelling competition that her classmates mock and her mother Tanya (Angela Bassett) wants no part of. Dr. Larabee (Laurence Fishburne), her coach, takes her on, and Doug Atchison follows her from her school to the finals. Along the way she gets to know the other kids in the contest, and winning stops being the only thing she's thinking about.
