Akitsu Hot Springs

Shinko (Mariko Okada) runs a hot spring inn, and in the last days of the war a young man with tuberculosis, Shusaku Kawamoto (Hiroyuki Nagato), comes there to die. Their romance begins beside the thermal spring, and over the years after the war the two keep finding their way back to each other. Yoshishige Yoshida frames them across wide, still compositions, so the two figures often seem to stand apart even in the same shot.
