Alexander the Great

(1956)Directed by Robert Rossen136 min · PGAdventure, History, Drama, War
“The colossus who conquered the world!”

Alexander (Richard Burton) leads his troops out of Macedonia to conquer the known world, convinced that the Greek way of thinking will bring enlightenment to the people he defeats. He is the son of Philip (Fredric March), a ruthless king who rules by force, and Robert Rossen films the campaign in CinemaScope and Technicolor, with Mario Nascimbene's score behind it. Alexander wants glory, and he wants it to bring enlightenment, and he is still young.
