Alexander the Great

On the last night of 1900, Alexandros (Omero Antonutti), a bandit chief and former political prisoner, escapes custody and seizes a group of British tourists. He holds them for ransom, demanding that Britain and the puppet government in Athens grant amnesty to the men fighting beside him. Theo Angelopoulos stages the standoff across wide Greek landscapes, the hostages and the band waiting together while the century turns.
