Alexandra

Aleksandra Nikolaevna (Galina Vishnevskaya), an elderly woman, makes the long trip to a Russian army camp in Chechnya because she wants to see her grandson Denis (Vasily Shevtsov) before anything else happens to him. Aleksandr Sokurov follows her through the tents and the heat, where the young soldiers treat her with an awkward tenderness. Denis keeps wondering why she came, and he is still in the war.
