Alfie

“Is any man an Alfie? Ask any girl!”

Alfie Elkins (Michael Caine) drives around London moving between women, Siddie (Millicent Martin), Gilda (Julia Foster) and Ruby (Shelley Winters), and he turns to the camera to explain how he does it. Lewis Gilbert adapts Bill Naughton's play and lets him keep talking, while the women around him start to make their own demands. Caine stands alone in the frame, mid-sentence, still sure he has it all worked out.
