Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves
In a story set among lords and slaves, with its sets built at Billancourt Studios in Paris and some scenes shot in French Morocco, Ali Baba (Fernandel) is a servant sent to collect a slave for his master. The errand turns into a tangle of gold, mischief and love once he runs into Morgiane (Samia Gamal) and the forty thieves the title promises. Jacques Becker lets Fernandel's long, rubbery face carry the comedy, with Georges Wakhévitch's sets rising behind him.
