Ali: Fear Eats the Soul

Emmi Kurowski (Brigitte Mira) is an older widow who cleans offices for a living, with grown children who rarely bother with her. One night she ducks into a bar for Arab immigrants and ends up talking with Ali (El Hedi ben Salem), a mechanic years younger than she is. Rainer Werner Fassbinder films them in tight, held frames, with neighbors and family watching from doorways.
