Nobody in Staines can say why the Prime Minister's own deputy would put Ali G (Sacha Baron Cohen) in Parliament, a self-styled gangster who runs a leisure centre campaign from his mum's estate. David Carlton (Charles Dance) wants a pawn to bring down the Prime Minister (Michael Gambon), and Ali is happy to oblige, tracksuit and all. Mark Mylod shoots it as a straight narrative, no mockumentary camera, so the joke is the absurdity played with a deadpan face.
