All About Lily Chou-Chou

“Pain can take you in prison. The ether can set you free.”

Yūichi Hasumi (Hayato Ichihara) is fourteen, and the only place he feels like himself is inside the dreamy, weightless songs of the pop star Lily Chou-Chou. Beside him in Ashikaga is Shūsuke Hoshino (Shugo Oshinari), a classmate whose friendship with Yūichi keeps shifting in ways neither of them can control. Shunji Iwai wrote, directed and edited the film himself, building it as an experimental drama of scattered pieces.
