All About My Mother

(1999)Directed by Pedro Almodóvar101 min · RComedy, Drama
“Part of every woman is a mother/actress/saint/sinner. And part of every man is a woman.”

In Madrid, Manuela (Cecilia Roth) loses her teenage son and takes the train to Barcelona to find the father he never knew. There she finds her old friend Agrado (Antonia San Juan), then falls in with the actress Huma Rojo (Marisa Paredes) and a pregnant young nun, Rosa (Penélope Cruz). Almodóvar fills the rooms with saturated reds and blues, so the grief never looks like grief is supposed to.
