“He was a student. She was his teacher. Their love was forbidden.”

Stig (Johan Widerberg) is fifteen in Malmö in 1943, and all he wants is his teacher, Viola (Marika Lagercrantz), who is twenty-two years older and married to a drunk who cheats on her. She sees in the boy a young, untouched thing that makes her own house easier to bear. Bo Widerberg, in his last film, casts his own son as Stig and builds the story around the school hymn that gives it its title.
