Alone in Berlin

“The truth was their resistance.”

In June 1940, as Berlin celebrates the fall of France, Anna (Emma Thompson) and Otto Quangel (Brendan Gleeson) sit in their Prenzlauer Berg kitchen after learning their son has been killed at the front. They once believed in the Führer, and now they want to say so, writing postcards that call for an end to the war and drop them in stairwells. Vincent Perez keeps the camera close on their faces while the SS and the Gestapo draw nearer.
