Alps

(2011)Directed by Yorgos Lanthimos94 minDrama
“When the end is here the Alps are near.”

In Greece, four people form a small group that stands in for the dead. A nurse (Angeliki Papoulia), a paramedic (Aris Servetalis), a gymnast (Ariane Labed) and her coach (Johnny Vekris) are hired by the relatives and friends of the recently deceased to take their place by appointment. Yorgos Lanthimos plays the whole arrangement in a flat, even tone, and the characters recite their borrowed lines as if reading from a card.
