Altered States

“In the basement of a university medical school, Dr. Jessup floats naked in total darkness. The most terrifying experiment in the history of science is out of control... and the subject is himself.”

Professor Eddie Jessup (William Hurt) shuts himself inside a sensory deprivation tank and swallows a hallucinogenic mixture he got from shamans, chasing whatever lies under ordinary consciousness. Ken Russell fills the dark water with visions of memory and time coming apart, and Eddie keeps going back in. His wife Emily (Blair Brown) watches the man she married turn into a stranger, and she has to decide how much of him is still there.
