“Everyone hustles to survive.”

Irving Rosenfeld (Christian Bale) is a conman who runs his schemes alongside his seductive partner, Sydney Prosser (Amy Adams). Then FBI agent Richie DiMaso (Bradley Cooper) catches them and makes them set up a sting on corrupt New Jersey politicians, including Mayor Carmine Polito (Jeremy Renner). David O. Russell, working from the late-1970s Abscam operation, shows a country where nearly everyone is playing a false identity, and everyone wants more than they have.
