Patrick Bateman (Christian Bale) is a Manhattan investment banker obsessed with status, designer labels, and appearance. He wants to matter among his peers, to stand out in a world of identical suits and business cards. Mary Harron turns his hunger for distinction into violence, and the only connection that sticks is with Jean (Chloë Sevigny), his secretary, who watches him with an attention he cannot bring himself to return.
