A small Oklahoma town in the 1980s, where Penny Jo Poplin (Sydney Sweeney) works at a roadside diner and dreams of escape. When a drifter named Lefty Ledbetter (Paul Walter Hauser) arrives with a bag of stolen money, Penny Jo sees her chance, and the two set off across the flat country with no real plan. What matters most isn't the heist or the chase, but the people you run with and what you're willing to become.
