Andrew Sterling (Samuel L. Jackson) is a successful writer who buys a vacation home on a New England resort island, and a neighbor sees him inside and calls the police. Chief Tolliver (Dabney Coleman) surrounds the house with armed men, then learns his mistake and, wanting no bad publicity, offers a deal to Amos Odell (Nicolas Cage), a thief sitting in his jail. E. Max Frye sets the two of them up as the unlikely pair, and Andrew has to deal with both.
