An Actor's Revenge

Yukinojo Nakamura (Kazuo Hasegawa) is a kabuki actor in Edo who has waited years to avenge his parents, driven to their deaths by three men. He plays women on stage, and Ohatsu (Fujiko Yamamoto) and Namiji (Ayako Wakao) each come into his orbit as the hunt begins. Kon Ichikawa fills the frame with painted backdrops, stage lanterns and the white-faced actor, and the hunter looks no different from the performer.
