An Affair to Remember

“In Italy... on the Mediterranean... across an ocean... and all over New York!”

Nickie Ferrante (Cary Grant) and Terry McKay (Deborah Kerr) are each promised to someone else when they meet, and by the end of the crossing they have made a plan. Six months on, they will meet at the top of the Empire State Building, and the film leaves open whether either of them gets there. Leo McCarey, remaking his own 1939 picture, shoots it in CinemaScope and gives the two leads room to talk.
