An American in Paris

(1951)Directed by Vincente Minnelli113 min · GMusic, Romance, Comedy
“What a joy! It's M-G-M's Technicolor musical!”

Why would a former soldier stay on in Paris with little money and a stack of canvases? Jerry Mulligan (Gene Kelly) has his reasons, and one of them is Milo Roberts (Nina Foch), a lonely society woman who buys his paintings and wants more from him than art. Vincente Minnelli fills the film with Gershwin tunes, and Jerry sings them to his friend Adam (Oscar Levant), a pianist whose dusty keys wait through every song.
