An Education

“An education isn't always by the book.”

Jenny Mellor (Carey Mulligan) is a sixteen-year-old schoolgirl in the London suburbs who wants to study at Oxford and leave her sheltered life behind. Then David Goldman (Peter Sarsgaard), a charming man much older than she is, pulls up beside her in a shiny car. Lone Scherfig puts Jenny in the passenger seat of that car, her school uniform and Miss Stubbs (Olivia Williams) both waiting somewhere behind her.
