“ON WAVES OF SONG, LAUGHTER AND ROMANCE ! TWO LOVE-LOST SAILORS ON A FOUR-DAY LEAVE OF FUN AND FRIVOLITY !”

Clarence Doolittle (Frank Sinatra) has four days of shore leave and wants nothing from them except a good time, with his friend Joseph Brady (Gene Kelly) steering the plan. The two sailors get pulled into the life of Susan Abbott (Kathryn Grayson), an aspiring singer, and her young nephew Donald (Dean Stockwell). George Sidney builds the film around the songs, and the friendship between the two men gives way to a shared stake in her.
