Pancho Villa (Antonio Banderas) is a Mexican revolutionary who, in 1914, will let any studio film his real battles if the money buys him guns and ammunition. The Mutual Film Corporation, through producer D.W. Griffith, takes the offer seriously and sends the filmmaker Frank Thayer (Eion Bailey) to negotiate in person. Bruce Beresford sets a young cameraman among soldiers who are still fighting a war, and the deal puts him in the middle of real gunfire.
