Angela's Ashes

“The hopes of a mother. The dreams of a father. The fate of a child.”

The McCourts leave America after a child dies and come back to Limerick in the 1930s, to a slum where the rain doesn't stop and the father can't find work. Alan Parker follows Malachy (Robert Carlyle), an I.R.A. veteran whose wages disappear into drink, and Frank, who grows up across three boys' faces. Angela (Emily Watson) keeps the children fed with what little there is, and the film watches what stands between her and the man she married.
