Bill O'Brien (Douglas Fairbanks Jr.) is a conman who spends his nights working New York's late rooms, looking for his next mark. He and the singer Nina Barona (Rita Hayworth) pull a small-time businessman named Engle into a poker game, then find the suicide note he dropped. Engle has stolen $3,000 and plans to be dead by morning, so the two of them have a few hours to change that.
