Zheng Kaisi (Li Yifeng) wants out from under his debts, and he is desperate enough to sign himself over to a high-stakes game of chance on a disused warship in international waters. Han Yan, adapting the manga Kaiji, sets the wagers under the watch of Anderson (Michael Douglas), a man who runs the table. Money is only the surface here, and what Zheng is really putting up is himself, one bet at a time.
