Ankur

A farm laborer's husband steals a pot of toddy and disappears from a small Indian village, and no one can say where he went. Laxmi (Shabana Azmi), left with no money and no one to answer to, begins leaning on Surya (Anant Nag), the landlord's son, newly back to run the estate and already promised to another woman. Shyam Benegal's debut keeps its attention on the two of them, a married woman and a man with a fiancée, in a village where everyone notices.
