Anna Karenina

(1935)Directed by Clarence Brown95 minHistory, Drama, Romance
“THESE TWO LOVED...and the world stood aghast!”

In Imperial Russia, Anna Karenina (Greta Garbo), the wife of an officer, travels to Moscow to visit her brother. On the way she meets Count Vronsky (Fredric March), a cavalry officer, and the attraction is immediate. In St. Petersburg society a woman's reputation is easily lost, and Clarence Brown, adapting Tolstoy's novel for MGM, gives Garbo's face the close attention that carries the story.
