Captain Anne Providence (Jean Peters) takes a prize ship in the Caribbean, then spares its captain, Pierre LaRochelle (Louis Jourdan), and signs him onto her pirate crew. Jacques Tourneur shoots the Technicolor adventure with Blackbeard (Thomas Gomez) circling, ready to say who Pierre really was before he came aboard. Underneath the swordplay is a plain question of whether two people can trust each other when each is hiding a past.
