Annihilation

“Fear what's inside.”

Lena (Natalie Portman), a biologist, volunteers for a secret expedition into the Shimmer, a quarantined zone where plants and animals mutate. She joins Dr Ventress (Jennifer Jason Leigh) and three other women, all scientists, on a route no one has returned from intact. Alex Garland, adapting Jeff VanderMeer's novel, treats the zone's changes as a force that rewrites living things, and the team as part of what it rewrites.
