“Was Shakespeare a Fraud?”

Who wrote the plays signed William Shakespeare? Roland Emmerich's film answers with Edward de Vere (Rhys Ifans), the Earl of Oxford, a courtier and poet who keeps his writing hidden while Queen Elizabeth I (Vanessa Redgrave) ages and the fight over who will succeed her grows ugly. William Cecil (David Thewlis) works the court's politics. Under all of it sits one idea: a name can end up on a body of work that belongs to someone else.
