“Chaos reigns.”

He (Willem Dafoe), a therapist, wants to cure his wife's grief himself, so he takes her (Charlotte Gainsbourg) to Eden, their cabin in the woods, after their infant son, Nic, dies in an accident. Lars von Trier divides the stay into a prologue, four chapters and an epilogue. In the isolation, her violence and the man's visions grow, and his attempt to heal her puts both of them in danger.
