“Pray it desires not you.”

Julia Meadows (Keri Russell) came back to her small Oregon hometown to teach, and she wants to get through to Lucas Weaver (Jeremy T. Thomas), a quiet student who comes to class hungry and withdrawn. She suspects trouble at home and brings it to her brother Paul (Jesse Plemons), the local sheriff. Scott Cooper sets the two of them on the boy's trail, with what Lucas is hiding at stake for him and for the town.
