Aparajito

Young Apu (Pinaki Sengupta) wants to learn, and the family's move from the country to the crowded holy city of Benares gives him more to ask about than he ever had before. Satyajit Ray follows him from a wide-eyed child to a teenager (Smaran Ghosal) studying in Kolkata, while his bond with his mother Sarbajaya (Karuna Banerjee) grows harder to hold. Between them the film keeps a long, empty room in Benares and a mother at the window.
