“Your god can't help you.”

In 1905, Thomas Richardson (Dan Stevens) crosses to a remote island where a religious cult has taken his sister. He passes himself off as a new convert and joins the community led by Malcolm Howe (Michael Sheen). Gareth Evans keeps him close to Andrea (Lucy Boynton), a woman who lives inside the cult's rules, and the two share a trust that neither can afford.
