Eugenia (Ornella Muti) and her friend Nicola (Eleonora Giorgi) are teenagers who want to know just how much their own youth can unsettle a household. The one they pick belongs to Eugenia's father, Dr. Emilio Rutelli (Gabriele Ferzetti), a dentist who lives with his mentally ill wife, Elisa (Valentina Cortese). Gianluigi Calderone sets the experiment inside that one home, where the order Emilio has kept for years is now open to two girls who are done waiting.
